Abstract

In this paper, the basic concept of chemical-looping combustion (CLC) is introduced, the existing oxygen carriers (OC) and its preparation methods are summarized with NiO/NiAl2O4, Fe2O3/Al2O3 and CoO-NiO/YSZ, the most ideal metal oxygen carriers pointed out. In addition, four chemical-looping combustion reactors are presented and further studies on the reactors for the long time-operation should be carried out. Progress in other relevant systems is also mentioned, and the highest efficiency can reach 55.9% through simulation. CLC is also applied in the combustion of solid fuels and hydrogen production. Finally, some aspects of future research about CLC are put forward.
