Abstract

With the large-scale integration of renewable energy into the power grid, the issue of weak gird has received considerable critical attention. More and more renewable energy stations are using static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) for reactive power compensation to stabilize the grid voltage. For photovoltaic grid connected systems, there is a lack of research on the impact of the integration of reactive power compensation devices on the photovoltaic penetration rate. Therefore, this paper establishes models of photovoltaic grid connected systems and STATCOM and conducts simulations to mainly study the impact of short circuit ratio (SCR) and STATCOM compensation capacity on active transmission power and conducts comparative analysis under different conditions to study the power transmission characteristics. The research conclusion indicates that both are the main factors affecting the penetration rate of photovoltaics, and at lower short circuit ratio, the increase in photovoltaic penetration rate is more significant after connecting STATCOM.
