Abstract

A systematic analysis was made here on the mass fraction burned and maximum pressure produced in cylinder based on the recorded pressure when methanol, ethanol and ether were blended into the gasoline. The calculation results showed that (1) both the ignition delay and combustion duration of using gasoline-ether blends decrease appreciably and the maximum pressure in cylinder increases as compared with using gasoline; (2) when the fraction of alcohol fuels in gasoline is small, the ignition delay decreases and combustion duration reduces significantly as compared with using gasoline; however, when the fraction of alcohol fuels in gasoline is high, both the ignition delay and combustion duration increase; (3) when the gasoline-alcohol blends are used, the maximum pressure in cylinder will decreases compared with using gasoline.
