Abstract

Densification of surface coatings was investigated by remelting with continuous wave CO2 laser radiation as a function of the processing variables. The surface coatings (molybdenum, niobium, titanium and WCCo) under investigation have been prepared on steel surfaces by plasma and flame spraying. The remelting with laser radiation yields surface layers of high density and improved adherence, which only just influence the underlying steel substrates.
