Abstract

How to prolong the multimedia application based on multi-hop wireless mesh networks powered by finite energy resource is a critical issue. In this paper, we propose a new approach to extend network lifetime by maximizing energy-balancing between routers while satisfying minimal multimedia service quality requirement. Specifically, a new channel coding scheduling algorithm is proposed to allocate the optimal channel coding redundancy to each multimedia packet to achieve both the maximal energy-balancing of the network and the lower bound of multimedia Quality of Service (QoS) requirement. The simulation results show that the proposed approach can significantly improve the energy-balancing of the multi-hop wireless mesh networks.
