Abstract
As a powerful tool for hydrocarbon detection and reservoir characterization, the quality factor is desirable in seismic data processing and interpretation. There are various methods for Q estimation, such as the logarithm spectral-ration (LSR) method, peak frequency shift (PFS) method, and centroid frequency shift (CFS) methods. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. In this paper, we propose a novel method for Q estimation. The generalized seismic wavelets (GSW) function was designed to fit various asymmetric amplitude spectra of the source wavelet by two parameters: fractional value and reference frequency, based on this, we can build the relationship between the GSW function and the Q factor of the media. Synthetic data prove that the proposed method can achieve higher accuracy and is more robust to random noise compared with existing methods, field data test also demonstrate its effectiveness.
