Abstract

Supercritical water oxidation is a new technology for treating organic pollutants and wastewater. When the temperature and pressure exceeds the critical value of water (Tc=374.2°C and Pc=22.12 MPa), the physical properties of water changes tremendously. In details, supercritical water can dissolve some materials generally insoluble in liquid water, especially some organic chemicals can be oxidized and decomposed efficiently in supercritical water, which is regarded as a kind of ideal homogeneous medium. Although the technology has many advantages, the problem of corrosion seriously hinders the industrial application of the technology. This paper reviews the research progress on the corrosion problem occurring in the process of supercritical water oxidation. The relevant parameters are analyzed for reducing the corrosion to the materials of equipment. Beyond, this work reviews some corrosion-resistance materials used in the process of supercritical water oxidation in order to develop better equipments against corrosion in different media.
