Abstract

A novel single-phase grounding (SPG) fault detection and location methods in non-effectively grounded distribution network based on fault component of phase current is proposed in this paper. First, the fault component networks are built and transient characteristics of the fault components of phase current under SPG fault are analyzed based on the Karrenbauer Transformation. Then the SPG fault detection method based on the correlation coefficient of fault component of phase current measured by adjacent intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) is proposed and the section location methods based on intelligent distributed feeder automation mode and centralized feeder automation mode is proposed respectively. Finally, the proposed method is validated by simulation based on PSCAD and fault recording data. Results show that the proposed methods are feasible. Compared to zero-sequence voltage and current based SPG fault detection methods, the proposed method does not need zero-sequence current transformer and potential transformer. Besides, the proposed method can select the faulty phase automatically without using voltage signals.
