Abstract

Uneven spatial electric field (E-field) distribution is the main cause of flashover along the surface of solid insulating materials. Surface functional graded material (SFGM) is a promising method to effectively enhance the dielectric strength of solid insulation along the surface by gas-solid interfacial E-field regulation. In this paper, the dielectric properties of UV curable composite coating materials were tested, including the relative permittivity, dielectric loss, volume resistivity and AC 50 Hz breakdown strength. And flashover voltage tests were performed on the planar electrode insulation structure samples. This research offers technical guidance for the design and manufacturing of surface functionally graded material (SFGM) with outstanding surface flashover performance and high building efficiency.
