Performance evaluation of an inter-cooler for turbo-charger system of internal combustion engine

Abstract

In this study, the thermal calculation and analysis of a parallel flow type inter-cooler of the turbo-charger system for internal combustion engine is presented. A computing program for thermal characteristics evaluation of the parallel flow type cooler model, using steady distributing parameter method was developed. The deviation between model prediction and measurement in cooling capacity is less than 10% and that for pressure drop is less than 5%. Both the analytical and tested results show that the inter-cooler can get its best performance at frontal wind velocity of 13 m/s.
