Abstract

Using the fast risetime trigger signal to trigger gas-gap switch will decrease the jitter of the output pulse effectively for the gas-gap switch, the jitter of the output pulse also will be decreased for Marx generator, and this will be beneficial for several parallel Marx generators to work in precision synchronism. The peaking circuit is used to peak the risetime of the output voltage pulse for triggering generator, the peaking principle of the peaking circuit is analyzed in this paper, the peaking apparatus is designed on the basis of the 100 kV triggering generator, these different peaking switches with different electrode configuration can be used in the peaking apparatus. The influential factors on peaking performance of the peaking circuit such as the sort of gas, the value of voltage and the electrode configuration are researched. While an acute electrode peaking switch with 5 mm gas-gap is used in the peaking circuit, and 0.60-0.90 MPa N2 is charged in this peaking switch, and the main capacitor of the triggering generator is charged to 55 kV, the risetime of a 90 kV output voltage pulse is reduced from 20 ns to 2.3 ns. The results show that, while N2 is charged in the peaking switch, the voltage amplitude of the input pulse is increased properly, and the electric-field distribution of the peaking switch is enhanced, the peaking effect of the peaking circuit will be better.
