Overview of nuclear reactor thermal hydraulic R&D in Xi’an Jiaotong University

Abstract

The School of Nuclear Science and Technology (SNST) of Xi’an JiaoTong University (XJTU) can be traced back to around 1958 and sprouted with the new epoch of China nuclear industry development. It is one of the oldest nuclear energy departments in China. The Nuclear Thermal-hydraulic research Lab (NuTheL) of XJTU was established simultaneously which has always been an important part of XJTU-SNST. After more than 60 years of development, XJTU-NuTheL has extended a series of sophisticated research fields and research directions. The main research fields of XJTU-NuTheL are nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics, safety and related issues. The main research activities include: Nuclear Thermal-Hydraulic Experiment, Thermal-Hydraulic Code Development and Application, Nuclear Fuel Performance and ATF Analysis, Advanced Reactor Thermal-Hydraulic Analysis, CFD Application and Development, Nuclear Reactor Severe Accident. In the above fields, XJTU-NuTheL has made a sequence of remarkable achievements which would be introduced in this paper.
