Abstract

The effect of the length to diameter ratio of a pulse tube on the performance of pulse tube refrigerator (PTR) was studied numerically. It is found that there exists an optimum length to diameter ratio at which the cooling capacity of a PTR is the maximum. The value of the optimum ratio varies with structure and operation parameters (such as frequency). For a PTR of conventional structure with a frequency of 17 Hz the optimum ratio is found to be 9.0.
