Abstract

Temperature is a vital parameter in monitoring of power cables. Accurate and continuous temperature data are very important to working condition monitoring, dynamic load determination, overheating alarm, and fire forecast of the power cables. In this paper, the distributed temperature sensing (DTS) system based on Raman scattering effect and optic time domain reflection (OTDF) was applied in real-time temperature monitoring of 10 kV underground cables-in-pipe row, and the temperature data of the power cables were obtained accurately, which can be adopted as reference for determination of current carrying capacity of power cables.
