Abstract
The air flow, heat transfer and contaminant dispersion in an office room under stratum ventilation, which is realised by placing jets strategically around a room at breathing height to create a layer of relatively fresh air, are investigated by a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model. The mass, momentum, energy, turbulence, species and air age conservation equations are solved, and the computed airflow, heat transfer and contaminant parameters are used for numerical prediction of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) quantities based on ISO7730 such as Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) and the Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied (PPD) room occupants. Special attention is also paid to the air quality of the breathing zone which is directly related to the occupants' health.
