Numerical simulation of radiant floor heating/cooling system with phase change materials

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

The electrical consumption can be shifted from peak period to off-peak period using phase change materials (PCMs). In this paper, a new radiant floor heating/cooling system is presented. There are two layers of PCM, which are used to store energy in the off-peak period and release energy in the peak period. A numerical model is built to analyze the thermal performances of the system during heating/cooling. The influences of heat of fusion, phase transition temperature, water temperature and room temperature on the performance of the system are obtained. The model is helpful to calculate and design such kind of radiant floor heating/cooling systems.
