Abstract
In order to avoid the singularity problem at the axis, a code with body-fitted curvilinear coordinates and collocated grid is developed to describe fluid non-axisymmetrical flows in cylindrical metallurgical vessels. The comparison between experimental results and numerical ones shows that the code is reliable. Then the code is applied to optimization of nozzle locations of ladle furnace with single bottom gas blowing. The numerical experiments show that when the nozzle is located at 0. 333 R from center, the fluid flow pattern is most reasonable. The result is consistent with practical one.
