N2 - With the continuous advancement of Fifth Generation (5G) cellular network, the application scenarios of mobile communications have been transformed into three application scenarios for eMBB (enhanced mobile broadband), mMTC (massive Machine Type of Communication), and uRLLC (ultra-high-reliability and ultra-low-latency communications). The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) uses the network infrastructure to allow cars to be connected to new radio technologies, and can be supported by 5G networks. Therefore, the society’s applications for IOV are also increasing. At the same time, due to the mobility of vehicles, the network performance of IOV is facing great challenges. The performance of the network is not only affected by the network equipment, but also depends on the network architecture and various protocols of the network. Effective performance evaluation of communication network can guide the further development of IOV technology. As an industry-recognized and iteratively updated network simulator, NS3 can effectively simulate the network and output key network evaluation indicators to evaluate network performance. Based on NS3, this article simulates the scenarios where a large amount of traffic transfers in the Internet of Vehicles, counts the key indicators of network evaluation, shows how to simulate and evaluate the network through NS3, and makes recommendations for network performance improvement.
