Novel rate control algorithm of real-time code-stream truncation and its VLSI architecture

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In order to implement the real-time code-stream truncation during the Tier1 coding in JPEG2000, the rest rate-distortion information of an image tile is combined with the rate-distortion slope of the current coding pass to determine the truncation of the current coding pass, thus effectively guaranteeing the real-time coding and decoding of the JPEG2000 system. Moreover, the JPEG2000 VLSI architecture is built up based on the algorithm proposed in this paper, which can truncate the code stream real-time during the Tierl coding. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm helps to truncate the code stream during the coding with high real-time performance, less working memory and excellent reconstructed image quality.
