Abstract

A novel internal concentric architecture of bony artificial bone scaffolds is presented. This architecture is characterized by a gradient in porosity. Its geometric model and the compiled design and simulate software are also presented to depict and form the intricate and interconnected structure matched that of the natural bone. Then its three-dimensional image will be displayed on the computer screen to guide design of scaffolds internal microstructure and create the IGS files to the other 3D CAD software, such as Pro/E, to create the STL files to directly manufacture these architecture models by rapid prototyping technology. At last, the relationship between the Kammer's three-dimensional truss theory of the femur and the concentric architecture is discussed, and then the expectant effects of the concentric architecture are forecasted.
