Abstract
A new explanation based on the variations of the thermophysical properties of gas was given to illustrate the mechanism of oscillations in Rijke tube. Because the gas density decreases with temperature, while the viscosity and heat conductivity increase, a singularity of the relationship between the pressure loss and mass flux would appear in certain condition in the heated tube, so that the instability and oscillations will occur. The complex thermoacoustic phenomenon of the Rijke tube is then explained from a new view.
