Near-field Focusing Emulation of Near-field-focused Arrays Using Far-field-focused Arrays

Abstract

A method to emulate near-field (NF) focusing of near-field-focused (NFF) arrays using far-field-focused (FFF) arrays with uniform phase excitation is presented. The objective is to make the field distribution of FFF arrays approach to that of NFF arrays at the focal plane of NFF arrays where three aspects of NF focusing emulation are investigated. The presented study provides an optimization framework of NF focusing emulation for any NF distribution of NFF arrays and any geometric distribution of the amplitude weights of FFF array elements.
