Abstract
Following the last chapter on structure/properties and their evolution during thermal exposure, this chapter will focus on the coating design and processing toward both high performance and long lifetime. After a brief introduction of processing of conventional microstructured thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), processing of micro-nano TBCs is presented. To design high-performance and long-lifetime TBCs, several aspects have to be discussed, including ceramic coatings with both high thermal barrier performance and high strain tolerance, bond coats with good oxidation resistance, and the whole TBC with good hot corrosion resistance.
