Abstract

Monte Carlo (MC) method is thought as the last resort to deal with the reactor problems. However, many challenges prevent the applications of MC methods in real fusion and fission engineering applications. SuperMC is a CAD-based MC program for integrated simulation of nuclear system by making use of hybrid MC-deterministic method and advanced computer technologies. SuperMC 2.2, the latest version, can perform neutron, photon and coupled neutron and photon transport calculation and is equipped with the functions of automatic modeling and visualization. In this paper, the main functions and features including the geometry and physics automatic modeling, hybrid MC and deterministic transport method, advanced acceleration methods in transport calculation, visualization and virtual simulation of SuperMC2.2 were introduced. The calculation results and calculation time of four representative cases of fusion and fission reactors from series of benchmark cases of SuperMC2.2 including fusion reactor, fast reactor, ADS, PWR were presented and compared with MCNP5. The results were in accordance and the calculation speed of SuperMC was faster. The intelligent pre-processing and post-processing functions reduced the human effort.
