Abstract
Based on the thermal balance principle in heat transfer and the theory of frictional melting of ice, a model was established for the prediction of automobile traction on ice. The model has high accuracy and is comparable with calculation. The effects of automobile service conditions, environmental conditions and surface roughness on traction were analyzed. Some subjects for future investigation were proposed.
