Abstract

Hollow, thin shell box of TC2 titanium alloy was fabricated by the laser melting deposition (LMD) near-net-shaping process. The microstructure and phase composition were investigated by OM and XRD, respectively. The tensile properties along both longitudinal and transverse directions were tested at room temperature. The results show that the laser melting deposited TC2 alloy has a fine basket-weave microstructure, and excellent tensile properties, but the tensile elongation exhibits noticeable anisotropy with a longitudinal elongation 42. 5% higher than that of the transverse.
