Method for performing design of complexly shaped forging

Abstract

A new method for the preforming design was put forward which combines adroitly the advantages of both finite element method (FEM) and upper bound element technique (UBET) in simulation, namely, the crude preforming design is fulfilled with the UBET backward simulation, then the repeated revisions are fulfilled with the FEM forward simulation until satisfactory precision is obtained. A complicated H-shaped forging from a billet was used to illustrate the application of the method just described with good precision.
