Abstract

In this paper, an integrated dynamic model for a vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) using advanced automatic dynamic analysis mechanical systems (ADAMS) is established. On this basis, the dynamic features of circuit breakers and many condition parameters that are undetermined in the case of failure mechanisms are studied. Furthermore, an electrodynamic model for VCB has been established and the opening process of mechanisms in fault currents can be simulated. From that, the influence of electrodynamic force under different phase angles can be investigated. Some experiments have been conducted to evaluate the correctness of the established model. These results match the outputs of simulation well, which supply adequate theoretical bases for the condition monitoring of medium voltage circuit breakers and are also very useful for analyzing transient operating processes.
