Mandated gender-diversity policy and firm innovation

Abstract

We propose a theoretical model revealing that ‘mandated diversity’ policies increase the representation of women and minorities but lead to a decrease in firm innovation. This argument is supported by empirical evidence from countries with hard gender quotas.
