Investigation on the synergetic effect of biomass co-firing in the atmosphere of o2 /co2

Abstract

The dynamic characteristics of biomass co-firing were investigated using thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA), and the effects of fuel type, co-firing ratio and atmosphere on the synergetic effect of biomass co-firing were considered. Results show that there was a positive synergetic effect to improve the general ignition characteristics when biomass was co-fired with coal in both O2 /N2 and O2 /CO2 atmosphere, and the synergetic effect was more significant for the biomass of straw, for the coal with higher ignition temperature and for the atmosphere of O2 /N2 compared with that of O2 /CO2 . The most significant synergetic effect was found when the co-firing ratio was 0.2. The synergetic effect was proved significant when the oxygen concentration was less than 40%, while the effect was weaker when the oxygen concentration was high. Considering the oxygen concentration of actual oxy-fuel combustion is lower than 40%, it can be concluded that biomass co-firing has a positive synergetic effect on the ignition characteristics in the condition of oxy-fuel combustion.
