Abstract
A mathematical model is established for investigating the characteristics of thermomagnetic convection in the temperature-sensitive magnetic fluid in the presence of an external magnetic field. The flow and heat transport features of the thermomagnetic convection in a loop-shape channel is numerically simulated. A practical system for producing thermomagnetic convection circulation in a loop is fabricated. Experimental measurements are carried out with particle image velocimetry (PIV) for fluid flow and thermocouples with temperatures. Performance of the loop in different operation conditions including magnetic field intensity, input heat load and heat sink temperature were discussed based on the experimental observations and numerical results.
