Abstract

A microelectrode was fabricated by coating a silicon dioxide film on the Pt wire surface. The fabricated electrode was then characterized by scanning electron micrographs, energy spectrum, cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry and AC impedance spectroscopy. A well-defined sigmoidal response for reduction of potassium ferricyanide showed that the electrode has a high mass transport rate, which is the feature of the microelectrode. The micrometer scale size permits it to be used in vivo, and the absence of epoxy resin (as insulator material) also makes the presented microdisk electrode suitable for electroanalysis in nonaqueous media.
