Abstract

The influence of strain rate on the stress induced martensitic transformation in β solution treated Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al alloy was investigated. The results show that the stress induced martensitic transformation takes place in β solution treated Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al alloy with the strain rate increasing from 5 × 10-4 s-1 to 1500 s-1, and the trigger stress increases with the strain rate increasing. Optical microscopy and XRD pattern analysis show that the microstructures are composed of acicular α″ and β matrix for all tensile specimens at all strain rates. The dependence of the trigger stress on strain rate was explained in terms of the thermally activated interface movation model and generated temperature increment during deformation.
