Abstract
In order to overcome the problem of reestablishing the data set when the base stations move or the environments change, a novel 1-dimensional empirical model location algorithm-1-DEMRSSI is proposed for 1-dimensional wireless sensor networks applications such as road surveillance and pipeline transmission. The algorithm is based on RSSI (received signal strength indicator) and linear location, and utilizes the ratios of signal strengths, instead of signal strength, to determine the locations of the unknown nodes. The algorithm only needs to establish the data set for ratios of the signal strengths once. Simulation results and comparisons with the RSSI algorithm show that the calculation cost of the proposed algorithm is reduced, location time is shortened about 10%, and the location precision is improved by 14.2% to 66.4%. It has been observed that the algorithm is well flexible and practical for linear applications.
