Abstract

With the development of new power systems centered on renewable energy, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation has been greatly increased, resulting in an increase in DC voltage (>DC1500V). In order to improve the breaking capacity of DC circuit breaker, a self-triggering hybrid DC circuit breaker based on liquid metal current limiter is proposed in this paper. Based on the measured arc model, the simulation model is built to analyze the current limiting characteristics of the venting hole with different apertures, and simulation is conducted to predict the interruption of larger current at higher voltage. It effectively reduces the peak fault current, decreases the voltage across the mechanical switch, shortens the total interruption time, and realizes the rapid fault removal.
