Abstract

Voltage and frequency support after commutation failure at receiving end of HVDC transmission system is studied in this paper. Commutation failures can cause temporary interruption of transmitted power, resulting in severe voltage and frequency deviation. In view of this, quick active and reactive power support is needed. To do this, a coordinated control strategy for combined system of synchronous condenser and energy storage is proposed and the coordination is achieved by setting reasonable control parameters. This strategy aims to provide fast substantive active and reactive power support, reducing the voltage nadir as well as speeding up the process of system recovery. The control strategy is tested through simulations and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
