Abstract
Electric power system, like other infrastructures, is crucial to human society. However, the exposed power system is also vulnerable to various natural hazards, and the hurricane is one of them. The interruption of power supply is always related to economic loss, especially for the industry, and this urges the study of power system resilience improvement strategies to resist natural hazards and reduce as much economic loss as possible. From the perspective of microgrid installation to improve the resilience under hurricanes, this paper proposes a complete scheme consisting of hurricane modelling, reliability analysis, economic loss evaluation and optimization for distributed generation (DG) allocation plan. Firstly, the probability model of hurricane, characterizing the occurrence probability, intensity and duration time is introduced. Based on the model, we analyze the power system reliability, and the failure rate and repair time of component are derived. Afterwards the economic loss in distribution system measured by the reliability index is evaluated, and an optimization problem is formed to find the optimal DG allocation plan under hurricanes. Finally, the proposed method is performed and validated on IEEE 33 bus distribution system, which shows the whole scheme will be helpful for the future decision making in resilience improvement.
