Abstract

(Chemical Equation Presented) Bicycles built for two: The palladium-catalyzed intermolecular tandem reaction of propargylic compounds with 2-iodophenols offers an efficient, direct route to spirocyclic compounds with high regioselectivity. The reaction conditions and the scope of the process are examined, and a possible mechanism is proposed.
