Abstract

In this paper we propose a new approach for the estimation of the number of hidden nodes in a BP neural net, and a semi-experimental expression is given. Along with the comparison of the recent results concerned, we discuss the effect of input patterns. A new activation function f(x) = exp(-x²) is also proposed, which may decrease the nodes of the net for XOR problem.
