Heterogeneously Integrated Vivaldi Antenna Array Using 3-D Printing Technology on Radio Telescopes

Abstract

A broadband Vivaldi antenna array using heterogeneously integrated Marchand balun and flared notch radiator is proposed, as well as a phased array feed (P AF) that consists of this antenna element. The P AF is based on the applications of radio telescopes for the observation of fast radio burst (FRB), which combines wide bandwidth, extensive field of view and high sensitivity in order to increase the overall probability of capturing FRB. The prototype is integrated with two orthogonal linear polarized 4 x 5 arrays, each of which is composed of 20 Vivaldi antenna elements. The photosensitive resin and stereolithographic additive manufacturing method are employed, and the manufactured PAF exhibits a bandwidth of 4-12 GHz in both E- and H-plane polarization. The proposed wideband PAF has a promising potential application prospect in FRB observation.
