Abstract

This chapter describes the considerations in optimizing the heat exchanger performance of thermoelectric power generators (TEGs) for use in waste heat recovery from automotive exhaust gases. Thermoelectric devices have been in development since the early twentieth century with much of the research focus on improvement in thermoelectric material properties. However, the effective transfer of heat to and from the TEG also has a significant impact on the overall device performance. Strategies and efforts to improve heat transfer for automotive TEG systems are described in this chapter.
