Abstract
The gain narrowing in the amplification of Ti: sapphire laser pulse is studied. Both of its mechanism and pulse-shaping effect in constraining spreading of pulse spectrum introduced by self-phase-modulation are investigated analytically. The characteristics of seed pulse and amplifier configuration which determine the pulse-shaping effect are also discussed.
