Abstract

Diamond/NiCrAl composite powder was prepared by mechanical alloying using diamond powder and NiCrAl alloy powder. Cold spray was used to deposit ultra-hard diamond/NiCrAl cermet coating. The effect of diamond content on the characteristics of the milled powder and the as-sprayed coating was investigated. The results show that the microstructure, the particle size distribution and the grain size of the milled powder was significantly influenced by the ball milling parameters. The microstructure of the spray particles was completely retained in the coating. It was revealed that diamond particles distribution in the milled powder evidently influence the hardness of the cold sprayed coating.
