Abstract
An on-line partial discharge monitoring system for generators using very high frequency range was proposed and has been applied to several hydro-plants in Gongzui, Sichuan Province and Chitan, Fujian Province, ect. In this system, double capacitive couplers are installed close to the HV outlet terminal to obtain the single pulse waveform, and external disturbance can be separated from stator winding partial discharge via software by using the pulse-by-pulse analysis method. The consistent monitoring for a generator in a power plant was performed and failures were detected successfully. Analyses of the failures suggest that the method of trend analysis to statistical parameters is more effective in reflecting the insulation state of a generator, compared with the apparent charge method.
