Abstract
Geometry modelling is the key step of CAD/CAM. The modelling system of mechanical parts must include information of many aspects for design and manufacture processes apart from those of geometric configuration. Six features, with the form feature as the leading one, are used to describe parts. The authors develope FEATMD, a modelling system based on these features. It consists of 8 modules and 2 databases, and is written in 'C' language. The creation and management of the form feature database based on frame description are presented first. Parts modelling process and information transformation in FEATMD are discussed in details. Reasoning on frame network enables the CAD information transfer into the CAM environment.
