Fabrication of artificial bioactive bone using rapid prototyping

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

A fabrication system for artificial bioactive bone is established based on rapid prototyping, 3D reconstruction and biological technology. The artificial bone constructed from this system possesses an external form exactly coincident with the replaced bone and an internal 3D scaffold which has the microvaso structure of natural bone tissue. Through adding the bone growth factor and viable cells into the 3D scaffold, the artificial bone can obtain bioactivity itself. This approach can improve the traditional method that could not realize osteoinduction for lack of bioactivity. The animal experimental results show that the simulated inter-structure should provides the artificial bone with a proper space for the 3D growth of the osteocyte and quick activation. Exciting both osteocondution and osteoinduction can speeds up the bone growth. The fine biological behaviors of the artificial bone are confirmed.
