Abstract
Objective: To detect the expressions of survivin protein and survivin mRNA in placenta of women with pre-eclampsia and normal pregnancy. Methods: The expressions of survivin protein and survivin mRNA collected from placenta of 45 pre-eclampsia patients (20 cases of mild pre-eclampsia and 25 cases of severe pre-eclampsia) and 20 normal pregnant women were determined by immunohistochemistry. The image analysis technique was employed to analyze survivin protein. Real-time FQ-PCR was used to detect the placental expression of survivin mRNA. Results: survivin protein was found mostly in syncytiotrophoblasts and cytotrophoblasts, and it was significantly lower in placenta of pre-eclampsia than that in normal placenta, and significantly lower in severe pre-eclampsia than in mild pre-eclampsia. survivin mRNA was significantly lower in pre-eclampsia than in normal placenta and significantly lower in severe pre-eclampsia than in mild pre-eclampsia. Conclusion: The abnormal expressions of survivin protein and mRNA in placental tissues may play an important role in the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia.
