Abstract

Objective: To study the expression of enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) gene in cervical cancer and its significance. Methods: The expression of EZH2 mRNA was detected by RT-PCR in 20 samples of normal cervical tissues and 60 samples of cervical cancer tissues, and the relationship between EZH2 expression and the clinico-pathological features of cervical cancer was analyzed. Results: EZH2 mRNA had a higher expression in cervical cancer than in normal tissues (0.86±0.17 vs. 0.06±0.02, P<0.01). Furthermore, the condition of EZH2 expression was correlated with pathological grade, clinical stage, muscular invasion depth and lymph node metastasis of cervical cancer (P<0.05), but not with patients' age or tumor size (P>0.05). Conclusion: Increased expression of EZH2 gene might play an important role in malignant growth and be related to poor prognosis of cervical cancer.
