Abstract
A kind of new aerodynamic foil thrust gas bearing with elastic hemispherical convex dots was proposed in this study. The experiment was conducted to test its stability and load capacity on a thrust bearing test rig. Then the measurement and the analysis were performed using wave and spectrum analysis method. The present bearing has simple configuration and is easy to fabricate compared with bump foil bearings. The height, diameter and arrangement of hemispherical convex dot distributions can be changed to fit the load requirement. The experimental results indicate that this new type thrust gas bearing has better flexibility to adjust its stiffness, and it shows good stability and load capacity.
