Abstract

The energy losses and charge state distribution of 12C, 36Kr and 208Pb ions in a plasma have been measured for ion beam energies from 3.6 MeV/u up to 11.4 MeV/u. A capillary discharge plasma target with a free electron density up to 5.5 × 1019cm-3 and a brightness temperature of about 3.5eV were used in these experiments. The experimental data are compared with previous theoretical and experimental results.
